Kevin Gibson is a retired rural letter carrier for the USPS in Towaco, NJ. He has served as
Sr. Asst. State Steward in his union for 10 years and is serving as an Executive
Committeeman on the NJ State Board for 6 years. He is a local steward in his
office and has managed to juggle wearing all these hats along with raising a
family. Anita and Kevin have been married 21 years and have a son in high school
named Liam and a daughter in middle school named Dana. Kevin has been playing strat since 1982 first in a dice and card league along with Steve Adler from the
N.J. Beatles and is presently in the TSL league based in Northern NJ being one
of the leagues founding members. He is a member of the TSL Rules Committee,
Trade Council and serves as the League Transaction Recorder. He has won one
championship in the TSL out of two trips to the World Series.
Kevin is a Mets fan who started out as a Yankee fan. His favorite
player growing up was Mickey Mantle and he still remembers his dad taking him to
his first big league game Red Sox vs. Yankees. Dad was a life long Sox fan. Ted
Williams was still playing and the field was the greenest and biggest field he
had ever seen. Kevin rooted for the Yankees until Mantle retired but he was also
following this team in Queens that was losing alot but was also fun to watch. By
1969 the Yankees were no longer his team as the Mets were the best. It should be
of some interest to our Canadian brothers in the CBA that Kevin is also a big
hockey fan. The NJ Devils have been his team since arriving here from Colorado.
He is a member of the SUDS fantasy hockey league where you name your team after
your favorite beer. His team the Sam Adams Snipers has won 3 Silver Cups in
their ten team league and been to the finals 5 times. Kevin is a long suffering
Jets fan as well and is hoping for a Super Bowl appearance sometime in the neart
future. Kevin is an avid gamer and reader and loves hiking as well as X-country
skiing.
Towaco needed to hit the reset button after losing to Joliet in the 2016 CBA playoffs. The starting staff dropped off precipitously after Syndergaard, Hill and Estrada with Hill having only half a season of starts. James Shield pitched way over his head to keep us in contention for a wild card spot until the final block, but the Wolfpack's prospects for the 2018 season were looking rather bleak with Syndergaard going down early, Estrada struggling, Friedrich a bust and Liriano looking finished. There were some bright spots looking ahead. A decent season for M. Clevinger and optimism with R. Lopez's upside but as the season reached July we felt we needed to deal away some of our aging players for picks in order to set us up for a better and brighter 2018 and beyond. We decided to move aging veterans J. Blanton , J. Reyes, M. Prado , and C. Torres as well as a younger P. Alvarez who was strictly a DH and didn't fit into our plans. In return we acquired B. Peacock who can start or relieve and higher picks that we used to draft B. McKay, N. Karns, M. Gonzales, R. Bleier, Y. Escobar and C. Joseph. We also added pitchers J. Faria, R. Tepera and N. Vincent as well as C. Asuaje-2B in the early rounds of the draft.
The 2018 CBA season will see a Towaco starting staff of Cobb, Hill, Peacock, Clevinger, Karns and Estrada while mixing in youngsters Faria, Lopez, and Gonzales. Additionally we'll have a veteran bullpen of Bleier, Cecil, Tepera, Fields, Baez, and Vincent with Kintzler and Rodney closing. "Thor" will be on the bench this season but Towaco fans are expecting him to rebound in a big way to be our ace in 2019.
Paul Goldschmidt-1B leads a talented group of regulars this season such as T. Shaw-3B, C. Seager-SS, C. Yelich-CF, N. Mazara-RF, R. Martin-C , C. Asuaje-2B, C. Gomez-OF and the outstanding surprise breakout player of 2017 Tommy Pham-OF. Towaco plans on shaking things up in Staub this year with a good mix of power and speed and with the aid of a veteran bench that includes L. Duda, Y. Escobar, C. Utley, and R. Rivera along with youngsters T. Hernandez and F. Barreto. This is a team that should contend for a playoff spot if they play to their potential. There are quite a few pitchers that have spots in big league rotations for this MLB season. If things play out the way I hope they will and the young guys start to develop, then there should be quite a lot of competition for starting pitcher jobs next year. If we're in contention come July we may be adding players to get us into the playoffs thru trades. I'm hoping that happens. I've done my part now it's up to them!
