Canadian River Ball Yard Rats | Dave Covert | March 1st, 1997 to November 1999 |
Kennesaw Mountain Woodsmen | Mark Woods | Jan 2000 to December 2001 |
Neah Bay Whalers | John Skillings | January 2002 to November 2006 |
Kennesaw Mountain Woodsmen | Michael Blakeley | November 2006 to present |
Kennesaw Mountain is the region. The Woodsmen name is a nickname for James Michael Blakely's team from Kennsaw Mountain Georgia. The team originally was started by controversial GM Dave Covert. Dave was quite an astute GM who built a good franchise right from the initial draft. A succesful team, the Canadian River (Oklahoma) Ball Yard Rats were a contender right away. 84 wins in season 1, then into the 1998 playoffs where they lost in one of the great all time series to Dawson's Hamilton in 7 games. G1 Pedro won 2 to 1 over Clemens. G2 saw Hamilton Harbors Randy Johnson shut em out 4-0, g3 a 10-3 CBC (NWC) win behind the bullpen. g4 Pedro got shelled this time and Clemens allowed just 2 10 to 2. Woody Williams stopped Neah again 2 to 1 in a classic duel in G5. Chan Ho Park was brilliant leading CBC to a tied series 5 to 1. But Hamilton defeated Neah (CBC) in game 7 nail biter when Hamilton broke a tie in the 9th, and Neah with runner on 3rd couldn't bring him home in the 9th for a playoff loss. Hamilton went on to lose to eventual champion Longue Pointe the next round.
After Canadian River, Neah was known as Kennesaw Mountain Woodsmen . This team was one of the all time strong CBA teams as the stats show. Mark Wood was the manager and did a good job with this team and had good ties with other GM's. Kennesaw won 106 games in 2000, then won another 96 in 2001. When Mark moved on in 2002 after Claude left the commisioner, the team was acquired by John Skillings. Skillings guided Neah to 101 wins in his first year. The rest is history as Neah remains a perennial contender and is always at the top of the Carter division.
After John Skillings abandoned his team during the playoffs of 2006, James Blakely took over the Neah Bay team guiding them all the way to CBA's World Series. In 2007 this team will be once again known as the Kennesaw Mountain Woodsmen in honor of one of CBA's more successful franchises. Here's a look at their logo history. James Blakely has undertaken an aggressive rebuilding plan to turn Kennesaw into a CBA power. He has traded and obtained many blue chip players to build a franchise of strength. He had many picks in the 2010 draft in hopes that he too will compete like the lucky few in CBA's heralded Net World Series

It was a festive quasi-double holiday for Whatler fans but a shocking end of
the season for the fans of Longue-Pointe.
Last night at precisely 10pm, after Richie Sexon and Jason Varitek struck out
to end the bottom of the ninth, it was Flag Day and Valentin's Day all rolled
into one at Molson Yards as John Skillings and his Neah Bay Whalers soundly
defeated Dennis Concepcion's Longue-Pointe Loggers with a 6-0 shutout to win
Game 5 and clinch the 2006 Staub Conference crown.
It was a win punctuated by four Whaler home runs and a typically stingy outing
by winning pitcher Pedro Martinez.
The victory was Neah Bay's fourth straght after losing the Round 2 opener in
Neah Bay to Andy Pettite by the score of 3 to 1.
They now will face the Indiana RedBirds in a CBA World Series matchup that will
mark the very first appearance for both teams.
Martinez took a no-hitter into the 6th inning while Javier Valentin blasted 2
homers in consecutive at bats off starter and loser Greg Maddux. A pair of 9th
inning dingers by Mike Lowell and Aaron Hill off John Halama and Kelvim Escobar
yielded 3 insurance runs to secure the Whalers' first ever Staub pennant with
a collective bang.
Indeed, for these listless Loggers, the Playoffs ended with a collective whimper
as the deposed Champions batted a sub-atomic .170 in their 12-game playoff
journey.
Despite winning Round 1 in seven games against Skokie, it became apparent as LP
faced Neah Bay that the Logger bats were being whittled down to toothpicks.
In the subdued Loggers locker room where just shy of a year ago they raucously
celebrated their first Championship as the Loggers and second in overall fran-
chise history, Concepcion shook hands with his somber players and later gave a
quiet and brief post-game interview in the Press Room.
"This was a tough, tough defeat," he said to the gathered press, "but in no way
does this diminish what John and his team has accomplished this season and this
Playoff Series. He had great pitching which neutralized our bats, and in
the
end, our pitching staff could only do so much before it gave out from lack of
hitting support."
"While my guys played their hearts out, no one could seem to get on track except
for Gonzo (Luis A. Gonzalex, who batted a team best .254). The collective
power
outage of the Loggers is something I can't explain."
Martinez(4-0) gave a stellar effort for Neah Bay. He went 6 innings
allowing 3
hits and 1 walk. Pedro lost his chance for a no-hitter when Greg Maddux,
of all
people, singled with one out in the 6th inning. Neah Bay ended up with 9
hits
for the game.
In the Whalers' locker room, it was whooping and yelling led by Pedro doing a
victory salsa for the TV cameras broadcasting back to Neah Bay.
A very champagne-soggy John Skillings puffed his victory cigar when he accepted
the Staub trophy and got a measure of revenge on Pedro by pouring an icy bottle
of bubbly down Pedro's back.
"Our team never wavered, even after losing at home in Game 1," said a smiling
John.
"It's a great feeling and I want to thank all my players and coaching staff and
congratulate them and our wonderful fans for the best season."
"We've come so close in the past, especially last year against these
same Loggers, but I tell you, being on top for this first time, the "view" is
just great! Now, just one more task remains. We'll party now, but
once we
land in Indiana, we'll be all business."
